As the pandemic continues and restrictions tighten once again, are you considering inventive ways to keep your team motivated and in good spirits? Particularly with the holiday season upon us we need to find ways to uplift, sometimes cheer up and fuel their spirits.
While the Christmas season is going to be very different for me (and many this year) there are some things I will keep the tradition up on - may be you can incorporate a few of the ideas...
Sometimes the work is enough, sometimes not.
My decorating craze at this time of year is all about trees :) I love them and every year I add one to my collection . some are abstract, some are made of wood, some of feathers, glass.... I put them everywhere so given that many visits will be over zoom this year I’ll set my area up to include one or two or a few! If you celebrate this season, can you do that ? put something in the line of vision for your chats — a wreath, a message, I know some of you will even don the Santa hat!
I’m going to have a little seasonal celebration on line with our group exhibition artists - bonus ! no one has to drive!
You need to have an engaging interaction with your team. Can be as simple as an online cheer for the season or an interactive activity or event. Donate and/or shop locally on behalf of your team to show your support goes beyond the business.
How about a virtual guest speaker ? Either someone that relates to your business and can inspire a renewed appreciation for your industry or maybe something totally unrelated and fun !
When I do team building events I have always started with an introduction to art by surveying styles both popular and obscure. I even have an artist’s work in the presentation that has built a career on drawing stick figures lol.
1. To have people relax and not worry about what their painting will look and, 2. Well, because I’m all about art.
I have found that any of the groups I’ve addressed they have learned something and/or gained a new appreciation for art. In some cases, it has confirmed a like or dislike of styles, inspired several to explore their creative side and mostly it brought them into a world outside of their usual work day!
It’s up to you to be the leader, create or maintain interest and help your team manage their situation.
I can help you with a “zoom in to creativity” art experience but I can’t talk numbers, recipes or fitness routines — you’ll have to seek experts in those areas on your own.
Enjoy the season! Let’s lift each other up in this trying time, karen
