I've been a practicing artist for many years and when I went looking for a studio to work out of, found it difficult to find affordable and comfortable spaces ... I decided when I found one I would make it accessible to other artists. studio k2 is doing that. You'll see details below but basically I want to share the space, share the resources and create a community of thriving artists in the City of Hamilton.
The 'artists' salon'
is a throwback to the old masters' groups and is a great opportunity to mix with like-minded individuals. We'll gather, share ideas and critiques, call keynote speakers in, work toward an even greater future for artists.
The beautiful white walls of the studio will host regular exhibitions. Collaboration between studio k2 and the artists' will promote the shows and grow a strong collector base for our community. As it is a working studio, artists will be invited to do meet & greet receptions, demonstrations and actively participate in selling their work. In addition to that there is one room [250sf] of the studio that can be rented for pop-up art shows.
The studio is 1200sf and there is room for several artists to work at one time. Sometimes it's difficult to focus and grow a body of work if you're working out of home - the visiting artist opportunities
are intended to afford you (rent-free) a full month in a workspace with other artists to move your work forward. Each artist will have a designated work station and interaction with peers will be as much or as little as you want while working.
the artists' creative retreat
are an extension of the visiting artist idea in terms of focusing and participating in an all-art, all-of-the-time experience with your peers. There are Hamilton, Ontario-based offerings and out of country retreats. The experience will include dedicated studio time, guest speakers, group critiques & local excursions. This is not a painting course it is intended for professional artists to actively grow their own work and share ideas with our peers.
